The Lab: Where Marketing Claims Meet Reality
We don't trust spec sheets. We buy every extinguisher at retail price and put it through rigorous, documented testing. Here's exactly how we do it.
Our Testing Philosophy
We buy every extinguisher we test at retail price. No manufacturer samples. No "review units." No advance notice to companies. This is the only way to ensure you see the same product that shows up at your door.
We've invested over $15,000 in testing equipment and tested over47 different fire extinguishers since 2024. Every test is documented with video evidence, timestamped data, and multiple trials.
When manufacturers claim "15-foot spray distance" or "works on 10 fire types," we verify it. When marketing language gets creative, we call it out.
Test Protocols
Every extinguisher goes through our standardized 4-part testing protocol. Here's exactly what we measure and how.
Spray Distance Test
We measure the effective spray distance under controlled conditions using a calibrated measuring system.
Methodology:
- Fire from a fixed position with full canister
- Measure distance where spray maintains sufficient density
- Record effective range vs. maximum range
- Test at multiple pressure levels (full, 75%, 50%)
Laser distance meter, high-speed camera, wind meter
Discharge Time Test
We time the complete discharge from first spray to empty canister.
Methodology:
- Full continuous discharge from brand new unit
- High-speed video recording at 120fps
- Multiple tests per product (minimum 3 units)
- Compare claimed vs. actual discharge time
Precision stopwatch, high-speed camera, digital scale
Fire Suppression Test
Controlled fire tests to verify actual suppression capability across fire classes.
Methodology:
- Class A: Wood crib fire (2x2 ft)
- Class B: Gasoline pan fire (1 sq ft)
- Class K: Cooking oil fire (commercial fryer)
- Time to full extinguishment recorded
Fire test pit, infrared thermometer, safety equipment
Ease of Use Test
We test how quickly different users can deploy each extinguisher under stress.
Methodology:
- Activation time from grab to first spray
- One-hand vs. two-hand operation capability
- Grip strength requirements measurement
- User testing with varied demographics
Grip dynamometer, timer, stress simulation

Data Collection & Verification
Every data point in our reviews comes from controlled testing, not spec sheets. Here's our data integrity process:
- Minimum 3 units tested per product model
- All tests timestamped with video/photo evidence
- Raw data archived for independent verification
- Outliers investigated and documented
- Manufacturer claims fact-checked against our results

Independence Verification
We understand that trust must be earned. That's why we maintain complete transparency about our process and invite scrutiny.
Purchase Receipts
We retain and can provide retail purchase receipts for every product tested.
Raw Test Data
Original test data, photos, and videos are archived and available upon request.
No Pre-Publication Review
Manufacturers never see our reviews before they're published. Ever.
